A Prayer for a World in Need of Mercy and Light, August 16, 2025

Dear God of compassion and clarity, we come before you with hearts open and heavy, carrying the weight of a world in motion—a world trembling with decisions, disasters, and deep longing for peace.

We lift up the people of Ukraine, as talks of ceasefire fade and alliances shift. May truth not be traded for power, and may the dignity of every nation be honored. Let peace be just, not politicized, and may the cries of the suffering not be drowned by strategy.

We pray for those in the path of Hurricane Erin, a storm whose speed and strength remind us of creation’s fury. Protect the vulnerable, calm the winds, and stir in us a deeper reverence for the Earth we share. May we respond not only with preparation but with repentance for the ways we have neglected our planet.

We grieve the deepening famine in Sudan, where hunger has become a daily torment, and children eat what was never meant to sustain them. Break the siege, O God. Let aid flow freely, and let the world not look away. May justice rise with the sun over El Fasher, and may healing come to every broken body and heart.

We hold close the undocumented teen in the Bronx and all who live in fear of deportation. May schools remain sanctuaries, and may compassion guide every policy and every patrol. Let love be louder than fear, and may every child know they are safe, seen, and cherished.

We reflect on the quiet shift in our culture—as fewer raise a glass and more seek clarity. May this be a moment of awakening, where health is honored, and habits are reexamined. Let us celebrate not escape and find joy in presence, not intoxication.

And in all these things—in every summit and storm, in every courtroom and classroom, in every choice and change—we ask:

May peace prevail. Not as a distant dream but as a living reality born of justice, mercy, and love. Amen 💕✌️🙏
